Each runner’s chance is determined by analysing their past record and current preparation. A horse’s performance will generally continue to improve with each preparation until it reaches its peak at four or five years of age. By studying the patterns of each runner we can predict the chances in each race. We look at four basic factors which have stood the test of time:
- Can the horse handle the distance of today’s event?
- Is the horse fit?
- Has the horse been competitive lately?
Does the horse:
- Lead or like to stride along?
- Race on pace or take up position?
- Generally get back in the field?
Each runner’s form is analysed in combination with other factors including the day’s track, barrier position, jockey engaged, change of jockey, expected pace of the race, state of the track, and, most importantly, class change, to determine what is (in our opinion) the best or strongest chances in the race.
